What it is
Minimally invasive laser ablation of pilonidal sinus tracts.
Am I a candidate?
Pilonidal disease, especially recurrent or chronic sinus.
How it's done
- 1Numbing — the area is numbed with local anesthetic. No general anesthesia, no hospital stay.
- 2Cleaning — the sinus tracts are cleared of hair and debris.
- 3Laser — a fine laser fiber is passed into each tract to close it from the inside.
- 4Home — you leave the same day with a small dressing and no open wound to pack.
What to expect
Same day
The procedure takes about 15-20 minutes.
Next day
Most patients are back to work, school, and normal activity.
1 - 3 weeks
The wound will drain liquid as a reaction to the burn from the laser, and this will decrease over this time.
~2 months
The small holes made to place the laser probe will close naturally on their own.
Follow-up
Weekly quick visits to check on progress and shave the area.
Risks & considerations
Recurrence < 5 %, mild serous drainage.
